FUI Design - The Human Ledger

Story

The entire human civilization is in debt… of being a human. We have not yet figured out a way to repay it but it seems like it has something to do with our day to day actions. They say that there is a trans-galactic system that has records of all the beings in existence. They call it ‘The Human Ledger'.

I am telling you all this because I want you to be careful… of your actions. Several tracker bots have suddenly found an interest in me but I am not surprised at all. And I am sorry about your mom, son. I was out of choices.

The Screen

The FUI of ‘The Human Ledger’ consists of all the possible information regarding a particular individual/entity. In this case, that individual is Andre C. Mueller, Human-42, living on Earth-610 who has exceeded his debt limit.

I have created three variations of the same FUI Graphic to instill different emotions for each variation. There is a sort of a ‘look’ to the variations that I have come up with. It involved a lot of color experimentation.

The Process

Layout

I started with a base layout of how I wanted the overall composition to look like. This acted as the starting point of my project.

Focal Point

I wanted to keep my focal point for this one on the name of the person and his status. I then wanted to redirect the eyes on the Debt Limit Exceeded Message. I designed my screen accordingly.

Information Engineering

I wanted the information conveyed in the FUI to be believable and true. So I searched the internet and came across an online random person generator to get the exact details that I needed in order to fill the FUI with believable information. I also avoided adding any extra information that might hinder the storytelling.

Feedback

I shared my design with my fellow designers over at discord for their feedback. One of the critique that I got was that the left bar felt a bit off with icons being placed in a box and separated by a long divider.

I took note of it and fixed the left bar.
